ILPS SUPPORTS THE GREEK PEOPLE'S STRUGGLE AGAINST THE CRIMINAL KARAMANLIS REGIME

Press Statement
13 December 2008

By Prof. Jose Maria Sison
Chairperson, International Coordinating Committee
International League of Peoples' Struggle

The International League of Peoples' Struggle (ILPS) expresses its vigorous support to the militant people of Greece in their condemnation of the many crimes of the right-wing Karamanlis regime against the Greek people.

The present social unrest in Greece has been ignited by the murder of a protesting youth and is an expression of pent-up anger that has been building up for months against the oppressive and exploitative policies of the corrupt Karamanlis regime.

Students and faculty members mounted militant protest actions the past year against an education reform that would allow privatization of university education. Workers opposed a government plan to reform the pension system by going on a general strike.

Public sector workers have protested against the policy of privatization on hospitals and schools among others. Many strikes were mounted the past year that affected the transport sector, courts, banks, hospitals, media organizations and public offices.

A demonstration in Athens during the latest general strike in October was violently dispersed by the police. Thus, the latest killing of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos has been seen by the people as a glaring case of escalating state brutality.

Throughout the world, governments have persisted on carrying out so-called neoliberal reforms that have attacked the livelihood and hard-won rights of the workers and other toiling masses. Thus, the people have been putting up resolute and militant resistance against such "reforms."

In the face of the worldwide financial and economic crisis, the people are witness to how governments are quick to come to the rescue of the big banks and corporations but are slow to take up measures to alleviate the suffering of the working people.

The International League of Peoples' Struggle (ILPS) extends its militant solidarity to the Greek people as well as to the other peoples of the world who are struggling against the criminal policies of governments of the bankers and the bosses.

The ILPS supports the struggles of the workers for decent wages, better working conditions and trade union rights, the struggles of the peasants for land reform, and the struggles of all the oppressed peoples for justice, freedom and democracy.

Resist the oppressive and exploitative state!
Advance the struggle for the people's rights and welfare!
Long live international solidarity!

ALEXIS WILL TAKE HIS REVENGE IN TODAYS' STRUGGLES TO OVERTHROW GOVERNMENTAL POLICIES

CPG(m-l) condemn the cold blooded murder of the young student in the night of 6 December. This murder wasn't a bad moment of a 'bully' policeman or a badly trained and organized police.

It's the sequel of a policy which fortify and brazen suppression forces against the enemy people. It's the sequel of the murder of a pakistani immigrant on the 26th October. It's the sequel of the everyday barbaric suppression of youths' and peoples' struggle. It's the sequence of the recent suppression of student demonstrations and the savage beating of students but also of the orgy of tear-gases usage and suppression of the thousands that demonstrate these days. This is the exact policy that armed the hand of Alexis executioner.

CPG(m-l) believes that the more and more frequent use of suppression mechanisms IS NOT RANDOM.

It's the sequel of a cornered government which is in worst position that when it took over.

A government with low poll percentages, where prime-ministers' court is bared because of the 'disclosure' of its participation in scandals.

A government which for a long time has been in the sight of the political centres that see their demands for alignment with their plans in the wider region, based on the increasingly intensifying inter-imperialist competition, cannot reciprocate as they wanted.

A government with obvious lack of firm support on behalf of european associates that not only not discuss of loosening the Stability Agreement but also from the support fund of 150 billions that they announced, because of the deficit 'can't afford providing it with any funds'.

A government which by its own choice pass the burden of the crisis to the toiler masses with an extortionate Budget, which intensify the direct leech bleeding of the toilers with new austerity, which attacks to the labor rights that have been left, digs its own grave.

A government that to save itself must prove to all sorts of political centres that it wants and can leave the people aside. This is the one that armed alexis executioners hand.

From this point of view Alexis will not be justified anywhere else than through the strengthening of youths' struggles, in the fortification of workers resistance.

Not to those struggles that WILL burst out in the future but to those that ALREADY develop.

• Let the rage and dander feed the strengthening of a new wave of student struggles that already come up to the surface.

• Let them find a way out in the strengthening of high-school students struggles, in the youth that more and more thinks of Alexis as one of there own.

• Let them find a way out in workers and toilers strikes, whom their fight take care of the rights not only of this generation but also of the one to follow.

A teenager murdered by the Greek police!

We stand in solidarity with the struggling people!

On December 6th two police officers murdered Alexandros Grigoropoulos, a 15 year old teenager, by shooting him right in his heart. At first, both government and police claimed that the police officers were attacked, which turned out to be a lie. The Media despite their effort to distort the facts and reproduce the government and police propaganda didn’t manage to succeed. A multitude of witnesses confirm that, right before the incident, the policemen provoked the group of young boys and a verbal conflict followed but at no instance were the policemen attacked or physically threatened.

It's not the first time the police has murdered in cold blood and it will not be the last. This bloody brutality must stop. This event was occurred at a time when the reactionary plans of the government force the majority of the people to live in the worst conditions possible, with out rights, condemning them to live a life of unemployment and poverty. This event is only an extreme manifestation of the violence which this system creates at every instance. Everyday the vast majority of the people gets a low paid unsecured job, financial insecurity and a collapse of the social web. Happiness is a consumer good which can only be bought in ever increasing doses. Societies are impersonal so it is easier to socialize negative externalities in the quest for individual profit. This social setup cannot but resemble a pressurized container. When the 15year old was shot this container busted. Every one of us was hit by that bullet. That is why immediately after the incident, thousands of people all over Greece went out in the streets to protest. The Greek police confronted the protesters with extreme violence...

From the night of Saturday the 6th since now, there are nation wide rallies, demonstrations, actions of all kinds by a diversified and numerous part of the Greek people. At many documented events the police made repeated unnecessary use of their firearms (even at the funeral), while many of them are extremely provocative towards the demonstrators threatening to kill them. Murder seems to be included in the police intentions and orders, as the video footage of the extreme police brutality shows (even against school kids and students). Huge amounts of tear gases and chemicals flooded all major Greek cities. Indiscriminate arrests among demonstrators were made , while members of fascist-groups disguised as concerned citizens and aided by the police participated in attacks with knives against protesters.

The extent of the riots and their pervasiveness is astonishing. Labor unions and social movements stand together against the government. The media are broadcasting misleading information in order to spear terror among the population and portray the justified anger of large part of the Greek society as pariahs who have no reason for discontent. It is the same tactic which was used during the French riots of 2005 by Sarkozy. What will be attempted next, is to allow for more repression, undemocratic anti terrorist legislation, and surveillance. The cause of the riots isn't lack of police men and incomplete laws. The root of the problem is too many unjust laws, too much injustice tucked in every corner of our lives.

This tragic event can not be viewed as either isolated or individually attributable. Other incidents include the murder of the suspected terrorist Brazilian plumber in the London subway and the death of the French youth that triggered the massive French riots, but the list is longer and more multifaceted. A social system based on the principle of individual profit cannot but create violence, everywhere present whether visible or hidden. In a world where Democracy means that the few rule in favor of an aristocracy of capital, where justice means that different set of rules and values apply for immigrants or people in the ever-“developing” world and different for first class citizens. Numbers count, People not. Individual profit counts, people not. Profits are privatized, while Losses are socialized. Let's stand up against the root causes and the policies which create world wide violence and injustice!

We call every citizen all over the world, to support and unite with the people and the youth of Greece in their ongoing massive demonstrations, in their fight for better conditions...

Solidarity with Greek people’s masses struggling against Karamanlis’ killing government

The Party of the Committees to Support Resistance – for Communism (CARC) expresses full solidarity to the students, the workers and all the people’s masses who struggles in the squares against Karamanlis’ government. It is a government of reactionaries, thieves, corrupted people and torturers that today shows itself as a government of killers as well.
The CARC Party expresses its full support to the Communist Organization of Greece (KOE), to the Communist Party of Greece/Marxist-Leninist, to all the parties and the organizations that today are a reference point for the rebellion of people’s masses against the regime. It commits itself to release as more as possible the information you give us, against the false propaganda of the media of the regime and of the revisionists, and to call for the solidarity of Italian people’s masses towards the struggle ongoing in Greece. We ask the comrades of KOE and KKE/ml to bring our message of solidarity to Greek people’s masses.
The Greek people’s masses rebel against a regime that is leading the country to ruin, trying to defend imperialist bourgeoisie’s interests as a devastating crisis is running over the entire world. The rebellion of Greek people’s masses is the same of the Italian ones, and the enemy is the same as well.
As capitalism crisis is coming to its head, the Communists need to tell not only what they are struggling against, but also what they are struggling for. This means to lead and promote the struggles against reactionary governments for building what we, in Italy, call People’s Block governments, founded on workers, students and people’s organizations that adopt emergency measures to face the crisis: assigning to every firm productive tasks useful and apt to their needs according to a plan, distributing the products to families, individuals, firms and collective uses according to plans and criteria, assigning to every individual a socially useful work and assuring him in exchange the necessary conditions for a dignified life and the participation in managing society, establishing relations of cooperation and exchange with all the countries that are disposed to establish them with us.
Let’s organize ourselves for overthrowing these regimes that are leading our countries to ruin, misery and war, let’s support people’s masses who are already organizing themselves, let’s unite the various forms by which the masses organize themselves for a future government that will do people’s interests, for starting towards the way out of the crisis, towards another possible and necessary society, towards a socialist society!

Down with Karamanlis’ killing government!
Long live the struggle of Greek people’s masses!
Long live the struggle of Communist, of revolutionaries, and of all the forces who opposes the bourgeois regimes and pose the foundation of the new world!

The cold blooded murder of the teenager is the work of the government

The people and the youth will not submit!
To the streets! Against the policy that murders!

The Communist Party of Greece (marxist-leninist) condemns and denounces to the Greek people and youth the cold blooded murder of the 15 year old teenager by the police.

This murder was the result of the continuous strengthening and impertinence of the police forces. It was the result of the murder of the Pakistani migrant in October, 26th. It was the natural outcome of a series of police brutalities and the every day brutal repression of the people’s and youth’s struggles. There were many indications from recent events for the political decision of the government to intensify state terrorism.
Despite the orchestrated attempt of the Media it was impossible to hide that it was about a clearly, directly, cold blooded murder. Just like the previous social democratic government with the murder of another teenager, the right wing government shed blood in its attempt to intimidate the people and the workers in front of the intensified social discontent, due to the crisis and its anti-popular policies.
It is a fact that as long as the crisis of the capitalist system worsens, as long as poverty and unemployment increase, the repression and state terrorism against the people will also intensify.
But the people and the youth WILL NOT SUBMIT!
To the streets! Against the policy that murders!

The New Communist Party of Romania is deeply worried about hostilities in Caucasus

The New Communist Party of Romania is deeply worried about and firmly condemns the escalation of long-running hostilities in Caucasus, which has resulted in what seems to be a full-blown war between Georgia and Russia over the separatist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

This current war ought to be regarded as the expression of rivalries that exist within the imperialist camp, that is, between great capitalist powers vying for regional as well as global dominance.

In the past years, seizing on the weakness of the new capitalist Russia that had emerged from the breakup of the Soviet Union, the American imperialists have taken steps to assert their hegemony in places like the Balkans, the Middle East, the Caucasus and Central Asia. In 1999 they bombed Yougoslavia and forced it to relinquish its control of Kosovo. In 2001 they invaded Afghanistan, in 2003 they invaded Iraq and istigated a right-wing coup in Georgia which ousted the pro-Russian president Shevarnadze and set up a pro-American regime headed by president Saakashvilli, which is seeking EU and NATO membership.

But in the recent years Russia has overcome the deep crisis of the 1990s and a new class of mega-capitalists, of super-rich oligarchs has emerged. These oligarchs, just like their American counterparts, seek to expand abroad and, as a result, Russia has become- through companies like RusAl, Evraz, Norilsk- an important exporter of capital- mainly to poorer countries in Eastern Europe, Central Asia or Africa, but also, to a lesser extent, to rich Western countries. The Russian capitalists are no longer willing to play second fiddle to the American ones. They no longer want to be dominated, on the contrary, they want to dominate others. The rise of the new "assertive Russia" in recent years is in fact nothing but an expression of the rise of a new class of international capitalists with their own dreams of world domination.

But, since the American capitalists also happen to want world dominance there can be, under the current system based on profit and greed, only one outcome: confrontation, and this is exactly what we're seeing today. World capitalism once again finds itself on the verge of plunging mankind into the abyss of an inter-imperialist war.

It is obvious that BOTH the American imperialists and the Russian imperialists are to blame for the current war. It is obvious that what we're dealing with is a replay of what happened 100 years ago, prior to the outbreak of World War One. Today's US resembles the British Empire of 100 years ago, today's Russia resembles the German Empire of 100 years ago.

The American imperialists are guilty for setting a dangerous precedent with the unilateral declaration of the independence of Kosovo. They are also to blame for trying to include Georgia- as well as Ukraine- in the imperialist NATO alliance. At the same time the Russian capitalists are to blame for seeking to expand to other countries and for supporting the separatist forces in the- albeit nominally- independent and sovereign state of Georgia. This is a confrontation between two rival gangs of international robbers.

The international working class- as well as Communists all over the world- are duty-bound to actively and resolutely oppose this imperialist war. The international working class should, under no circumstances, take sides in the current imperialist war. Both sides should be actively and resolutely opposed by the international proletariat and the international Communist movement.

As regards the two imperialist camps taken separately, the Communist and workers there must know that their main enemy is AT HOME, and, therefore, that their main task is to fight the capitalists WITHIN. Should an inter-imperialist war break out, the main duty of US workers would be to fight the US imperialists, whereas Russian workers would be duty-bound to fight the Russian imperialists. This is the only way forward for the international working class. For the workers and Communists inside the two camps the only path worth taking is the path Lenin and the Bolsheviks took 100 years ago.

The main enemy is WITHIN!
